Interview Standards and Goals

Every candidate is offered a similar experience and fair questions. Our goal is to give West Virginians a clear, consistent way to understand who is running and how they think about the issues that matter. Interviews are generally recorded in a single sitting, with no edits to answers. The only edits are due to interruptions and problems with the microphone.

Our interview questions are specifically to help voters understand a candidate’s values, decision‑making, and connection to West Virginia. Asking the important questions to show how they are fit. We believe that in an ideal world, it would be very obvious that a candidate shows how they fit that role. Through their approaches to community building, what they have done within their communities, and if they are speaking from the heart rather than rehearsed lines like a politician.

Our Commitment

1. We do not speak for candidates, public officials, or corporations

The views of the organization are broad, but we ground our decisions in facts with evidence. Nothing that we say represents any interests of candidates, public officials, or any corporation.

2. Accountability

We don't believe in taking sides. We believe that a public servant has a duty regardless of party affiliation - to serve the people and take care of their needs. If we want to work towards a better world, we have to hold people to the same standards and also attempt to understand why they act and feel the way they do. We will not shy away from calling out harmful actions just because of a party.

What These Interviews Are

1. A way for individuals to get to know their candidates.

Many individuals have expressed the lack of information on candidates in general. This project is intended to provide this resource for individuals.

2. A way to show who the candidate is as a person.

We believe that you deserve to know who candidates and officials really are. Not just from some practiced lines - how they think, why they act the way they do, whos interests do they prioritize? These are the things we must know about our public servants.

3. A way to highlight if the candidate actually cares about representing.

It shows when a candidate speaks from the heart. It shows when they are well-informed, and can bring evidence and studies to the table. It shows when they have been involved in community efforts way before running a campaign. At the heart of it, we want to highlight who really cares. It becomes obvious when you ask the important questions about their community efforts, and legitimate changes they assisted with

What These Interviews Are Not

1. A way to simply slander anyone who opposes us.

We are not going to slander anyone, period. Accountability goes across the board, and we believe in organizing our facts before putting out any articles and opinions.

Who Gets Interviewed?

1. Any individual who will agree.

We genuinely wan't to interview all those who will agree. Attempts are made reaching out several times to candidates.

How We Put Together Summaries And Fact Checking

1. Goal of our Summaries

The summary is intended to having non-partisan framing as a genuine resource to know who a candidate is - meaning we are very specific about what we include within them. We highlight the parts that matter from the interviews, like their community contributions, funding commitments, and how they have actually made a difference.

2. Goal of our Fact Checking

Fact checking is done across any candidate or official. It is important to highlight moments that may be infactual, so we do not further spread misinformation.
